Our Work
Our work is anchored on helping communities to practicing legally entrenched community natural resource management, empowering rural communities to govern their own environmental affairs and generate their own income to fight poverty, create wealth and job opportunities.
in addition, our work is aimed at providing global environmental benefits through biodiversity recovery and restoration thereby contributing to Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs, Gender Equality, Climate Action and supporting life on the land).
Internally our efforts and actions are driven towards the contribution to the conservation of the two largest complexes of biodiversity Ecosystems in Zambia, thus the Greater Kafue National park complex, the GMAs providing a buffer to the national park as well as sustainable community forest management areas and local forest.
Services
We have strong linkages with the communities through working and networking with respetive Royal Establishments and Royal Highness in the conservation of biodiversity and improvement of livelihood at household level.

Community support in forest management
KCF supported the comminities of Kelongwa and Nyoka of Kasempa District, to create community forest management areas on communal land covering the total hectarage of 115,700hectres. these community forest managed areas are regally gazzeted by the government of the Republic of Zambia conferred with user rights. The community forest managed area in Kelongwa is called Kelongwa- Kamanama- CFMA while Nyoka CFMA is called Butanda. Kelongwa- Kamanama CFMA is 54,200 hectares while Butanda CFMA is 115,00 hectares. All these communities Forest Managed Areas forms part of the Greater Kafue Eco-System and wildlife corridor.

Biodiversity Recovery and Protection
KCF has trained 68 law enforcement officers in sustainable forest management as well as wild life policy. As a result of this Kelongwa Landscape has benefited greatly in wildlife recovery, land management, forest protection and restoration and water as well as fish protection. In addition, the heads of Elephants have been migrating in the landscape due to the safe environment and good habitat. The group of trainees was fully recognized by Government in April 2021. The foundation has also trained the Traditional leaders like Village Headmen and Civic leaders on local governance systems as well as Eco-system Conservation.

Empowering Rural Communities
KCF is empowering rural communities in enhancing alternative livelihood activities that are nature based such as Bee keeping and Value addition, Eco-tourism, Game Ranching, Fisheries and water management as well as Sustainable conservation farming. In 2023 the foundation managed to train 3800 households in conservation farming. This was aimed at creating a climate resilient agriculture zone in the landscape, improving food security at household level and reducing malnutrition. The foundation trained 500 bee keepers in modern ways of bee keeping and honey production. The 500 bee keepers were also supported with 2500 modern bee hives in the same year 2023. So far 1000 bee keepers have been fully trained in modern ways of bee keeping. On gender equality, the foundation has managed to train 150 women in sustainable natural resource management. The foundation also trained 30 gender champions. All these were trained in 2024.
